Israeli bank Mizrahi Tefahot refused to accept a gift from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich due to EU and UK sanctions imposed against him. As a result, he filed a lawsuit against the bank along with the Israeli charity ZAKA, Globes reported. According to the publication, Abramovich will donate 8 million shekels ($2.2 million) to search and rescue efforts funded by ZAKA following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. The entrepreneur believes that, as an Israeli citizen, he has the right to obtain bank approval for this operation, since Israel has not imposed any sanctions against him. In addition, it is not under US sanctions. The oligarch’s lawyers are convinced that the bank’s position is “wrong and has no legal basis.”
