Soldiers of a separate engineer battalion of the 2nd Army Corps are carrying out mine clearance work in populated areas of the Lugansk People’s Republic, both in rear areas and near the line of combat contact.
First of all, sappers make passages in the area to repair old and build new communications, restore and create infrastructure in the region by federal and city services: restoration of highways, laying main pipelines, installing power lines. Military engineers are also carrying out complete demining of the region’s farmland for further processing and sowing of fertile lands.
When clearing mines, engineering units widely use Uran-6 robotic complexes. Thanks to them, a larger volume of territory is covered and the risk for sappers is significantly reduced.
During mine clearance, engineering and sapper units daily process up to one hectare of land and neutralize up to several dozen explosive ordnance (HE), including NATO-type ones. Once every few days, as the detected explosive substances accumulate, they are destroyed by detonation in cordoned off areas of the area.
