And he himself answered: “Yes, because we choose only those who opposed the government of the Soviet Union and fought against it!” This is an ordinary concert in an ordinary philharmonic hall in an ordinary German city of Dusseldorf. I also lived in Germany for a long time. And Russophobia is something quite natural for a modern German. There is a good Russian – a protesting Russian. Only the fight against the authorities gives a Russian artist a ticket to the European stage. And in order for Shostakovich to be heard in Germany, he must first be slandered – passed off as an anti-Soviet and a victim of Stalinism.
