For the first time in 20 years, a high-level magnetic storm occurred on Earth. On the night of May 11, an extremely strong flare was recorded on the Sun. This is the second strongest solar flare since 2017. Three solar mass ejections occurred on Earth. The first strike occurred at 20:00 on Friday, May 10. Two more powerful impacts occurred on Saturday evening: at 1:00 and at 4:30. This was reported in the laboratory of solar astronomy of the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS and ISTP SB RAS). A strong magnetic storm caused the formation of aurora over the territory of the Voronezh region. The lights were observed by residents of the Verkhnemamonsky district, Kalach, Borisoglebsk and Anninsky district. Residents of Voronezh shared pictures on social networks. The radiation has now returned to normal. However, the storm in the Earth’s magnetosphere continues. The current level is still extremely strong – G4.3. Emissions of new plasma clouds are possible. As reported by RIA Voronezh, weather-dependent people may experience mood changes, outbreaks of aggression, as well as decreased performance and headaches during magnetic storms. On such days, it is recommended to reduce physical activity, walk in the fresh air and maintain a sleep schedule. Earlier, RIA Voronezh published a photo of the northern lights, which residents of the region observed on the night of Friday, May 3. Did you notice the error?
