EU leaders noted that in October 2023 they called for continued, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access and assistance to those in need. Therefore, the European Council once again condemned representatives of the Hamas group, recognized Israel’s right to self-defense in accordance with international law, and also expressed serious concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
The European Council called for a ceasefire for the first time since the escalation in the Gaza Strip began.
