Ex-deputy Polishchuk: at least 51 people died in the tragedy in Odessa Pavel Pakhomenko/ZUMAPRESS.com/Global Look PressRead 360 inIn the tragedy in Odessa on May 2, 2014, at least 51 people died. Ex-city council deputy Vasily Polishchuk told RIA Novosti about this. “I have 100% information that at least 51 people died, and not 48, as everyone writes,” he emphasized; the confusion arose due to the fact that the statistics did not include those who died in hospitals. He recalled that 247 victims officially turned to doctors for help. 99 people were hospitalized, 35 of them in serious condition. At the same time, as a result of the tragedy, there were many victims who did not go to hospitals, fearing that problems would begin with the police and Maidan supporters. Polishchuk emphasized that he personally knew some of these people, since he himself helped them with treatment. He also suggested that there could be many more dead. Polishchuk recalled that “some were burned so that they would not be identified.” They promised to do everything possible after the end of the special operation to establish the exact number of victims. Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko announced the need for a “big trial” after the SVO. She noted that it is necessary to collect all the crimes of the Ukrainian authorities.
