This is the Ostrog monastery, located in the mountains near Niksic. This Orthodox monastery was founded in the 17th century. The monastery houses the relics of its founder – St. Basil of Ostrog, the miracle worker. The monastery is active; currently 12 monks live in the monastery.
The prison consists of two parts. The Lower Monastery was founded in the middle of the 19th century; it consists of cells and the Church of the Holy Trinity. It contains the relics of St. New Martyr Stanko, a 12-year-old boy, whose hands were cut off by the Turks in which he held the Holy Cross and did not want to let him go.
The upper part of the monastery is built into a rock niche at an altitude of 900 m above sea level, it is on two levels, and the most important attractions of the monastery are located there. This part of the complex consists of two small churches – Holy Cross and Vvedenskaya.
At the moment, the monastery is one of the symbols of Montenegro, a very popular and beloved place by pilgrims from all over the world.
