A camera trap on the territory of the Khopersky Nature Reserve in the Voronezh region has once again recorded an animal unique to the region – the lynx. The sex of the animal could not be determined because the animal turned away from the lens. However, from the photographs it is clear that the lynx is quite well-fed and quite healthy. The reserve staff spoke about this on Wednesday, April 3. Experts explained that the sex of animals can be determined by certain features of the muzzle; Males, for example, have coarse facial features, while females have a more “cat-like” appearance. The lynx’s muzzle is not visible in the photographs. – It is important to note that the lynx, if we are talking about last year’s animal, was caught in a fairly short period of time in the same place: on the border of the floodplain and the terraced part of the reserve. Lynx is a territorial animal with individual habitats. Apparently, one of the sections of its bypass passes here. The species from a scientific point of view requires further close observation,” said senior researcher Roman Fedyaev. The lynx was first spotted on the territory of the Khopersky Nature Reserve in February 2023. Traces of the animal were discovered during the traditional winter route census of animals. Then, in December 2023, the animal was caught again on a camera trap. Until last year, the lynx was seen only in the Voronezh Natural Biosphere Reserve named after Peskov. Did you notice the error?
