Users of bank cards of the national payment system “Mir” were informed of a new update related to the validity period of the card. According to information, this change will come into force on March 2 and will lead to a complete reset of the card’s validity period. Previously, two international payment systems left the Russian market, which made it impossible to issue new Visa and MasterCard cards. The validity period was indicated on existing citizen cards. However, most Russian banks have decided to extend the validity period of the cards. In particular, some cards will be valid for an almost unlimited time, and for other cards a significant increase in the period of their use is provided, and Mir Bank cards operating on the basis of the national payment system will extend their service life. For example, Sberbank, which is the largest issuer of such cards in Russia, also announced an extension of card service periods. The validity period of the cards will be reset, and now users will be able to use them twice as long: from five years, the period will increase to ten. This change will affect both debit cards to which wages are credited and social benefits. and credit cards. The innovation will come into force on March 2.
