Sychev Nikolai Ivanovich (1878-1954) – military surgeon, lieutenant colonel.
From the diary of Ataman V.G. Naumenko, May 24, 1921:
“In view of the fact that Dr. Sychev is in resettlement [казаков] plays a big role, I must write down briefly how he knows the Serbs, and how they know him.
At the beginning of the European War, he was sent at the head of the Russian Red Cross detachment to Serbia. In this role, he made a withdrawal with the Serbs under pressure from the Serbian enemy. A long stay in Serbia, experiences with the Serbs, the grief of defeat and the joy of victory. Knowledge of the language (he studied it) closely connected him with the Serbs. He fell in love with them sincerely and thanks to his sociable and kind character, he had many friends among the Serbs, who provide us with all possible assistance: the army commander and his assistant took an active part in us.”
