US President Joe Biden is not considering the possibility of pardoning Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, RIA Novosti reports. In late June, a US District Court judge on the island of Saipan approved an agreement between Assange and the Justice Department in which he partially admitted his guilt for violating the Espionage Act. Saipan, the capital of the autonomous American Commonwealth in the Western Pacific, was chosen because Assange was wary of traveling to the American continent and because of its relative proximity to his native Australia. The judge sentenced the journalist to the time he was already serving a prison sentence in the UK and announced the case was closed. After the verdict was announced, the defense stated that the work of WikiLeaks and the mission of Julian Assange would continue. He will continue to advocate for “free speech and government transparency.”
