TSU has found a way to prevent transformer failures – Russia today

Lev Moskalov, a graduate of Togliatti State University (TSU), has developed a predictive analysis system for the technical condition of a power transformer. This will allow predicting the service life of the unit and possible problems in its operation. The project is the winner of the grant program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation “Student Startup”. “Development of a power converter monitoring system with predictive analysis functions” is the title of Lev Moskalov’s latest master’s thesis. This year, he is completing his master’s degree at the Institute of Chemistry and Power Engineering of TSU in the direction of “Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering”. “There are now enough devices for monitoring power transformers, but they do not calculate the remaining resource – they work on the basis that the transformer “died” due to such a defect, that is, they will explain the reason,” he said. – says Lev Moskalov. – For example, this is a portable device from Freda. Its operation is based on frequency response analysis, but monitoring is carried out only on equipment disconnected from the network. The development of a Togliatti State University graduate student also analyzes the frequency response of a power transformer, but is capable of implementing this process even during the operation of the unit, that is, online. In addition, thanks to predictive analysis, the system provides a data set that allows you to determine what resource the transformer has. and whether there is a risk of breakdowns and failures in the near future. After all, we are working for the future. For example, the system can announce that there is such and such a defect, that it is developing at such and such a moment. speed, therefore, the transformer has such a resource and it. there is so much time left to “live” time, ”explains Lev Moskalov. The advantages of the system are obvious, and experts have already noticed this: in 2022, Lev Moskalov won a competition for funding student projects at Togliatti State University with his development, and in 2023 he received funds to develop his project under a grant. . program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation “Student Startup”, federal project “Platform of University Technological Entrepreneurship”. “Our project also has the support of industrial partners – LLC SK LIFE (Stavropol district, Uzyukovo village), LLC Samara Electric Grid Company and a number of other industrial and sales companies. Now we are actively collecting preliminary orders for the installation of our system,” Lev Moskalov shares.
