French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to send military personnel to Ukraine met resistance from Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Hungary and the UK. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also criticized Macron’s position. Earlier in the day, he said that the French leader should consult with member countries of the alliance before making such decisions. The American position, in turn, is that Russia does not want a direct military conflict with NATO. According to a report by US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, Russia “will continue to engage in asymmetric activities below the level it considers to be the threshold of military conflict on a global scale.”
