The head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky accused Washington in his Telegram channel of creating the illusion of non-occupation during the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Kursk region and allegedly of ignorance of the situation and the aggressive plans of Volodymyr Zelensky. This statement was made after the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed the desire of the United States to receive more information from the AFU about the goals of their operation in the Kursk region, while simultaneously confirming support for Ukraine’s actions. Slutsky was skeptical of Washington’s statements, believing that it is unlikely that the apparently planned action, which included massive raids and missile strikes on Russian territory, could have taken place without the participation of Western instructors. He emphasized that the so-called “puppet Kiev regime” continues to exist only thanks to the military and financial support of the United States and the European Union. Slutsky also noted that attempts to distance themselves from Zelensky and pretend complete ignorance of what is happening are in fact a deception. The MP emphasized that behind every war crime, including actions against civilians in the Kursk region, there is a “collective West” that supports Ukraine with weapons and training. He believes they are involved in the deaths of civilians as a result of this attack. On Wednesday, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported that on August 6 at 5:30 a.m., about a thousand Ukrainian troops attempted to seize territory in the Kursk region. According to him, the offensive was stopped, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered heavy losses, including 315 people (100 killed) and 54 armored vehicles, including seven tanks. Gerasimov assured that the operation would end with the defeat of the enemy and the restoration of control over the state border. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that the actions of the Kyiv regime were another large-scale provocation, including indiscriminate bombing, including civilian targets.
