The FSB, together with the Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, prevented an assassination attempt on Simonyan and Sobchak in July 2023. According to security officials, Ukrainian special services were involved in preparing the murder. As part of the operation, members of the neo-Nazi group “Paragraph-88” were arrested in Moscow and the Ryazan region, who were conducting reconnaissance “at the addresses of work and residence” of the journalists. According to the FSB, the attackers were promised 1.5 million rubles for the murder.
