In 2022, the Veles Animal Welfare Society became the winner of the regional grant competition “Region of Well-Being”. This made it possible to open the Kotofan Club cat cafe in the city in the fall of 2023. The cafe has three rooms. Two rooms were provided for communication with animals, the third was left only for cats to rest. The cat cafe also has a buffet of tea, coffee and treats. “Volunteers talk about the pros and cons of keeping animals in the home and introduce them to an animal welfare volunteer. It is important that the desire to become the owner and friend of a stray cat is conscious. Our goal is to find a home for all guests. Since the opening, we have already taken in fifteen cats,” Olga Klyukvina, the president of Veles, told ASI. Vologda residents of all ages come to the cat cafe, but children and teenagers from 5 to 15 years old visit Kotofan only with adults. At the cafe you can bring your cats dry and wet food, cereals and pasta, meat, chicken and fish, as well as carriers, beds, scratching posts and scratching posts, hair clippers, household goods and medicines. “Ideally, this place will become a point of attraction for like-minded people who will propose ideas for social projects to support pets,” added Olga Klyukvina.
