The unit has saved thousands of lives and hundreds of special operations. And these are just the facts that have been made public. What remains behind the scenes is known only to them.For residents of the village of Fryanova near Moscow, where Lieutenant General Alexey Beschastnov was born and raised, he is a cult personality. His memory is carefully preserved here, and children and teenagers are brought up by his example.The grand opening of his bust took place at the school named after Lieutenant General Alexei Beschastny.Alexey Dmitrievich served in state security agencies for half a century. His career began in 1937. He started as an assistant to the head of the 2nd department of the Main Directorate of State Security of the NKVD.As the head of the Seventh Directorate of the KGB of the USSR, General Beschastnov did a lot to ensure that Group A became the legendary Alpha.Alexey Dmitrievich died on November 6, 1998, and was buried in Moscow at the Vagankovskoye cemetery. He passed away, leaving behind a reputation as an officer who always coped with the task. His contribution to domestic intelligence and counterintelligence, especially during the Great Patriotic War, is invaluable.For services to the Fatherland, General Beschastnov was awarded fifteen orders and nineteen medals of the Motherland and foreign countries, including Lenin, the Red Banner (twice), the Red Star (three times), the Badge of Honor (twice), and the Red Banner of Labor. There are also two higher departmental ones: “Honored Worker of the NKVD” (December 1942) and “Honored State Security Officer” (December 1957). He is an Honorary Citizen of the Polish city of Wroclaw. He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR VIII and IX convocations and of the RSFSR.Veterans of the International Association "Alpha" came to the opening ceremony of the bust to pay tribute to the memory of the man who played a big role in the formation of the "A" unit.The honorary right to open the bust was presented to the veteran of the first group “A” of the KGB of the USSR - a participant in the storming of Amin’s palace, holder of the Order of Lenin, Colonel Sergei Golov and Dmitry Ledenev.Veterans of Group “A” Nikolai Betin and holder of the Order of the Red Star Vladimir Eliseev also took part in the ceremony.The event participants paid tribute to the memory of Alexei Beschastnov and laid flowers at the bust.The school staff, under the leadership of director Elena Starostina, prepared a thematic program for the event participants.
