How to check the authenticity of a medicine • Russia today Posting in CHAT: Russia The path of medical drugs from manufacturers to pharmacies is completely transparent, since Russia has a drug labeling system, noted expert Stanislav Smirnov in an interview with Sputnik radio. He added that every buyer can check the authenticity of a particular drug. Our country has introduced a drug labeling system; Each package has a Date Matrix code - this is a mandatory labeling element. Outwardly, it looks like a regular QR code; as a rule, it is located at the end of the package, next to the batch, production date and expiration date. Anyone can use the mobile application of the state system “Honest Sign” to scan the code and get all the data about the product. This applies not only to domestic but also foreign medicines,” explained Stanislav Smirnov. The expert explained in which cases the quality of a medicine may raise suspicions. Of course, the human factor cannot be completely ignored, but illegal manufacturers will not be able to load counterfeit drugs into the Honest Sign system. If you buy a drug with a recent production date, but do not see the label, this is a reason to doubt the choice of this drug and this pharmacy. If there is a code, but the drug is not reflected in the “Honest Sign”, this does not necessarily mean that you are dealing with a fake, but there are grounds for suspicion. If the packaging looks damaged - wrinkled, poorly sealed, or there are difficulties reading the code - this is already a reason for serious suspicion. The packaging must be in impeccable condition,” said Stanislav Smirnov. In addition, you can check the pharmacy’s license yourself, as well as find information about the medicine in the relevant registry, he advised. The activities of pharmacies have been approved, the requirements for pharmacies are set at the highest level, they undergo regular inspections. All licenses can be verified in the public domain. Also, anyone can go to government portals, for example, compare information about a medicine in the State Register of Medicines with what is indicated on the packaging. In the register you can find out, for example, how many tablets should be in a blister. Any difference may indicate inadequate quality of the product,” warned Stanislav Smirnov.
