On Wednesday, July 3, the Samara Regional Court considered the complaint and upheld the decision of the Kirovsky District Court to extend the detention of singer Eduard Sharlotta. This was reported by the press service of the Samara Regional Court. The arrest was extended for a month and 24 days, and in total to seven months and 24 days, that is, until July 23 inclusive. The Samara Regional Court explained that Sharlotta is accused of committing two crimes under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Rehabilitation of Nazism”), as well as crimes under Part 1 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Insulting the feelings of believers”), Part 1 of Article 325 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Destruction of official documents”) and paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Incitement to hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity”). Eduard Sharlotap’s defense team disagreed with the Kirov District Court’s decision, appealed it, and asked for a preventive measure not involving arrest. The Samara Regional Court ruled that Sharlotta was accused of crimes against the peace and security of humanity aimed at desecrating symbols of Russia’s military glory; disseminating information expressing disrespect for society about days of military glory and memorable dates in Russia associated with the defense of the Motherland; a crime against constitutional rights and freedoms expressed in insulting the religious feelings of believers; destroying an official document for personal reasons; inciting hatred based on nationality with threats of violence. The court also ruled that the singer could have interfered with the investigation. As a result, the preventive measure was not changed. Latest news
