The prisoner who died on August 23 while being held hostage in the Volgograd IK-19 was planning to participate in a special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Bashkatov was mobilized in September 2022, but after being wounded and treated in the hospital, he did not return to his unit, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison in the spring of 2024. Shortly before his death, two weeks ago, Bashkatov contacted his mother and said that he had signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense and was supposed to go to the Northern Military District. However, he did not have time: the colony was seized by four terrorists who killed Bashkatov, officials of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation, who were injured during the hostage taking by radicals in IK-19, reported to the Basic Telegram channel. Sergei Gordopolov, 25, a serious official of IK-19, who received fatal wounds in captivity from radicals during a prison riot, managed to work for less than two years. The deceased’s grandmother told about this. The day before, Gordopolov died in hospital from his injuries. On Friday, August 23, several prisoners began to seize penal colony No. 19 in the Surovikinsky district of the Volgograd region.
