The International Olympic Committee has recommended that national Olympic committees not participate in the World Friendly Games in Russia as it would violate guidelines on sanctions against Russian sports. This was stated by James MacLeod, Director of the Department of Relations with National Olympic Committees of the IOC. The World Friendly Games will be held in September 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. Russia will spend 8.3 billion rubles on the events, according to a draft decree by President Vladimir Putin. According to the head of the Ministry of Sports Oleg Matytsin, Russia plans to invite athletes from Ukraine to the Games and ensure their safety during their stay on its territory. Ukrainian authorities have officially banned their athletes from participating in international competitions in which Russians and Belarusians compete.
