Deputies of the People’s Khural of Buryatia voted for a bill that allows the killing of stray dogs. Captured animals that do not have an identification tag or chip are proposed to be placed in temporary detention facilities. Owners will be found for them within 30 days. If a dog has a tag or chip, they will be kept in a temporary detention facility for 3 days, then 60 days in a shelter to find their previous or new owners. If they remain unclaimed, they are allowed to be killed.
The document also allows the treatment of terminally ill animals or those that can infect humans with a dangerous disease. Such dogs also face the death penalty if they attack people and cause harm to their health.
