The polar bear is not just a symbol of Chukotka, but an animal that makes our district unique. To organize a safe neighborhood of animals and humans in Chukotka and to preserve the polar bear population is one of the tasks of the international conference “Polar Bear Universe”. The level of the conference is growing every year, it attracts scientists from different countries, and has become one of the most serious platforms for studying and preserving the population of these unique animals. We agreed that the Ministry of Natural Resources will support holding our conference in 2025.
We are solving the issue with local materials for construction. We are interested in increasing the number of sites in Chukotka where sand can be mined: now it is brought to the district, and this is expensive. Our own materials will be able to make construction in Chukotka cheaper and faster. And this issue is the most important for the region, the construction of new social facilities and housing determines whether residents will stay in our district.
Expanding the territory where we have explored mineral resources. The development of the Arctic mineral resource base, which our President speaks about, is not just the growth of the Chukotka economy, the creation of jobs for our residents and an increase in the district budget revenues. This is an opportunity to take new measures to support residents, subsidize flights, engage in landscaping, renovate and build schools, kindergartens and healthcare institutions.
Currently, 16 promising areas have been identified in Chukotka where geological exploration can be carried out. 6.3 billion rubles are needed for exploration, and we are counting on federal budget support here. During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that Chukotka is a priority for geological exploration, and federal funding for the search for minerals will be allocated.
