Former governor of the Kirov region Nikita Belykh, sentenced to eight years in prison for bribery, has been released. Lawyer Andrei Grokhotov told reporters about this. He explained that on Friday, June 21, in connection with the verdict of the Presnensky District Court, Belykh left the pre-trial detention center in Kirov. His sentence has expired. Now Belykh is free. Let us remind you that the official was detained in June 2016 in one of the restaurants in Moscow while transferring part of a bribe. Russian President Vladimir Putin later removed him from his post “due to loss of trust.” In 2018, the court sentenced the ex-governor to eight years in prison in a maximum security colony. He was also fined 48.2 million rubles. Belykh pleaded not guilty. At the end of 2023, the court released the ex-governor of the Kirov region from punishment in the case of abuse of power due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. The state prosecution asked Belykh, who was sentenced to eight years in prison, to receive another four years in prison. In the past, Belykh was one of the leaders of the Union of Right Forces party. He headed the Kirov region from 2009 to 2016.
