China commissioned the world’s first four-generation nuclear power plant. The State Energy Administration of the People’s Republic of China reported this on its website. The Shidaowan Nuclear Power Plant has a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor and is located in the eastern province of Shandong. The State Energy Administration of China also reported that the facility operated in pilot mode for 168 hours, after which it was officially put into commercial operation. “In the research, development and application of fourth-generation nuclear power technology, China has reached the world leading level,” the statement said. The main advantage of fourth-generation nuclear power plants is safety in the field of electricity generation, so such stations have broad prospects.
