On August 13, at the II International Buddhist Forum “Traditional Buddhism and Modern Challenges”, President of the Consortium of Universities “Buddhist Education”, Rector of the Buryat State University named after Dorzhi Banzarov Aldar Damdinov signed agreements with the rectors of the Transbaikal State University Oksana Martynenko and the East Siberian State Institute of Culture Elena Perova. “Literally last week, a meeting of the Consortium of Buddhist Education was held, in which it was decided to include two new participants,” said Aldar Damdinov. Let us recall that the consortium of universities “Buddhist Education”, which included five universities – Buryat, Kalmyk and Tuva State Universities, Buddhist University named after Dashi Choinkhorlin and Buddhist Academy “Agin” – was created in August 2023 at the I International Buddhist Forum “Traditional Buddhism”. and the challenges of modern times” with the aim of promoting Buddhist education and Buddhist research in Russia and in the world. – Buddhist research at the Zabaikalsky State University has not stopped for many years, but at the same time we are extremely grateful to Buryatia, in particular to Alexey Sambuevich Tsidenov and the Buryat State University, for the wonderful initiative to hold the forum and create the Consortium. Because this is a very serious systematization of work, this is a step that allows us to build a strong system of Buddhist education and research based on integration at all levels. As it turned out, we have a lot in common and many things that unite us with the world. Buddhism is a teaching that helps us form a system of traditional values in the younger generation. And to form real deep patriotism in our children. The Consortium is a very open organization, we cooperate all year round, today this cooperation is formalized and institutionalized. “This is a very important step for us, it will help us to further develop education for the sake of peace, for the sake of creation,” said Oksana Martynenko. “We have a long tradition of studying the culture and art of Buddhism, because geographically we are located in the city of Ulan-Ude in the Republic of Buryatia. The geography of our candidates includes the Republic of Tyva, Yakutia, the Zabaikalsky Krai and the Irkutsk Region. Our candidates have long been immersed in the topic of Buddhism. Of course, this topic concerns the educational programs that are implemented at the university: decorative and applied arts, cultural studies and folk art. Each of the educational programs, of course, has a part of studying Buddhism. And, of course, this is important now in the context of educating the younger generation,” noted Elena Perova. During the year, the consortium implemented a number of joint educational and scientific projects. Aldar Damdinov named the creation of joint trilateral educational programs in the areas of “Jurisprudence”, “Chemistry”, “Economics”, “Psychological and Pedagogical Education” between BSU, KalmSU, and TuvSU as the main result. At BSU, on the basis of the Buddhist University “Dashi Choinkhorlin”, a department of Buddhist philosophy was opened. New educational programs “Philosophy of Buddhism” and “Buddhology” were opened at BSU and KalmSU. Students of BSU, KalmSU and TuvSU completed training at the School of Young Buddhist Theologians, organized by TuvSU on Lake Chagytai, and at the Media School MediaMate, organized by BSU on Baikal with the support of the Rosmolodezh scholarship.
