Residents of the southern regions of Russia share on social networks photographs of the rarest natural phenomenon for these latitudes – the northern lights. Only, unlike the traditional green-blue flashes, the sky turned dark red. Photos are shared by residents of Donbass, Crimea, Rostov and Voronezh regions. The cause of the celestial anomaly was a strong magnetic storm caused by coronal mass ejections on the Sun. The geomagnetic index on the evening of November 5 reached a value of 6. Due to strong geomagnetic activity, auroras may occur further south than usual, experts warn.
