Billionaires Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven filed a lawsuit against Ukraine: they demand one billion dollars for the nationalization of Alfa Bank. As New Edition reported, the claim was filed with the International Center for Resolution of Investment Disputes, part of the World Bank group of organizations. According to the lawsuit, Kyiv authorities illegally took the bank from its owners, “using a combination of corporate raiding methods and profiting from war.” After the start of a special operation in Ukraine, the Ukrainian branch of Alfa Bank was renamed Sense Bank, and its owners were removed from management, the publication recalls. In the summer of 2023, by decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the bank was nationalized. Last year, Alfa Group co-owner Mikhail Fridman and his business partner Petr Aven called their investments in Western countries a “mistake.” They tried to integrate their business into the world economy and tried not to be called Russian businessmen. However, Western countries still imposed sanctions on them, so Friedman, who had lived in the UK for a long time, moved to Israel, and from there went to Russia. Fridman and Aven left Russia in February 2022, the day after Russian troops entered Ukraine as part of a special military operation.
