Fraudsters have started using a new scheme to deceive Russian users. They call under the guise of telecom operators and offer preferential rates, RIA Novosti writes, citing its sources. Victims of fraud are asked to hand over money during the conversation for the so-called “connection guarantee.” Similar cases have already been recorded – representatives of some “companies” call owners and promote “favorable” rates with an additional “automatic extension.” “If you are called and offered to connect to a new rate, it is best to check the information on the official website of the telecom operator,” experts say. Earlier it was reported that the attackers, using a code phrase, forced Moscow State University professor, Doctor of Physical and Technical Sciences Yuri Pirogov to transfer almost 6 million rubles to them.
