On April 11, the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, John Williams, said that there was still no need to raise the key rate of the US Federal Reserve System, since monetary policy was now in a “good state.” Williams expects inflation pressures to ease to 2.25-2.5% in 2024 before returning to the 2% target next year. However, he noted that despite significant progress in returning inflation to 2%, the outlook for the future is “uncertain and we will have to remain data-driven.”
