The founder of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, Sam Bankman-Fried, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for multibillion-dollar fraud. The corresponding decision was made by a New York court, NBC News reports. According to the TV channel, the prosecutor’s office demanded 50 years in prison, and the defendant’s lawyers insisted on 6.5 years. In December 2022, the US Securities and Exchange Commission charged Bankman-Fried with defrauding investors. It was alleged that the crypto exchange received $1.8 billion from investors, and then these funds were transferred to a private hedge fund owned by the trader. He was soon arrested in the Bahamas at the request of Washington and extradited to the United States.
